Two weeks on the east coast — fly the boring kilometres
Sydney, a highland day, a northern reef launchpad. Driving every harbour to harbour in 14 days is a stunt, not a holiday.

The best 2-week east-coast itinerary for most first-timers is Sydney (with a Blue Mountains day), a short coastal or flight hop via Byron Bay or Brisbane, then four to five nights in Cairns, Port Douglas, or the Whitsundays for a reef day and a rainforest or island day. Fly at least one long gap. This is a sketch, not a ticket.
Definition
East Coast spine. The populated seaboard from Sydney toward Tropical North Queensland — cities, national-park days, and a reef launchpad — linked by flights more than by a single heroic drive.
Drive it or fly the gaps?
| Compare | Fly the long legs | Drive the whole coast |
|---|---|---|
| Time in places | More walks, one reef day that is not rushed | More highway, more motels |
| Fitness / comfort | Airport days still exist | Left-side driving for a fortnight |
| First-timer fit | Usually better | Only if the drive is the point |
