Perth and the Coral Coast are often a self-drive: the city, then a long northbound highway toward Shark Bay (World Heritage) and Ningaloo Marine Park, where you can snorkel reef from the shore in places. Tours make sense for whale sharks (seasonal), isolated legs, or if you do not want the fuel-and-fatigue arithmetic. This is not a day trip from the east coast.
